The Oilers got humiliated by the Sharks in Game 4, losing 7-0. The Sharks rode four power-play goals to that victory, but there's one penalty that lead to a goal that stood out. A penalty that looked Marchand-esque, a five-minute-major with a game misconduct to accompany it, charged to
Leon Draisaitl. Remind you of anything?
Brad Marchand had one that looked pretty similar, and the league was lenient on Marchand, who has a history of this kind of thing. Now, Draisaitl doesn't, so that doesn't affect him, so you have to think that Draisaitl gets at least two games for this. That keep him out for games 5 and 6, both of which the Sharks could win and then advance. If Draisaitl was suspended for only one game, and if the Sharks won that game, the Oilers would be on the brink of elimination. Draisaitl has been a big part of the Oilers' offense this year, second only to Connor McDavid on the team during the regular season. He finished eighth in the league in points with 77 and ninth in the league in assists with 48. His absence would have a big impact on the team. It doesn't look good for the Oilers without him, even with him, as he was there for a large part of the 7 goals scored on his team.
It was a stupid play and a stupid decision for Draisaitl to do this. His team was down and he decided to do something stupid to let out his anger. Hopefully the NHL's Department of Player Safety will finally crack down and end the spearing penalties.
Sharks in six.
