Subban is supposed to be a superstar, yet the only category he ranks in the top ten in during the playoffs (even though his team is in the Final) is assists (he's got nine.) He inexplicably winked at a Penguins player during a stoppage when his team was losing badly. Subban has gone and made a rash decision that he now can't back out of. If this was supposed to intimidate the Penguins, he's wrong. Sidney Crosby said that his team has paid little attention, if any, to Subban's guarantee. What Crosby did say was that he "expects a desperate team" and that "Game 3 is all (The Penguins) have their minds on now". This remark will likely not change the Penguin's game at all and put pressure on Subban to win even more so.
Crosby has been here before. This is Subban's first Finals. Crosby has 22 points, Subban has 11. Players for the Penguins in the NHL playoff's top 10 in scoring have a combined 34 goals (Crosby, Phil Kessel, Evgeni Malkin, and Jake Guentzel.) Players for the Predators have a combined 8 (Filip Forsberg). The Penguins have won the two games by a combined score of 9-4. To put it simply, Mr. Subban, your team isn't playing well.
The Penguins are a runaway train speeding down a hillside. They are on fire. The Predators are an old car that's on its last bit of gas. They are slowing down. Even Matt Murray is channeling his first-round Pekka Rinne. Murray now has the best GAA (1.54) and the best save percentage (.943) in the playoffs. However, Rinne has had a .778 save percentage, still has never beat the Penguins in his career, and is now fighting for his job with backup goalie Juuse Saros, who has made a total of two saves in this year's playoffs.
Subban has gone and done something stupid, and you can bet it will make it even more sour if the Penguins sweep the Preads.
